The Man That Was Turned Into Juice, João Batista de Andrade , (1980)
As part of the Kino Brasil festival, Kino Ponrepo will screen a copy of the Brazilian film The Man That Was Turned Into Juice from the collection of the National Film Archive. The main character, a wandering poet named Deraldo, arrives in São Paulo from northeastern Brazil. Time and again he clashes with the authorities, and to make matters worse, he is mistaken for a worker who killed his boss. Deraldo cannot tolerate injustice and sets out to find the real murderer in the big city. No one wants to be squeezed dry like orange juice!

Laura Batitucci will introduce the Brazilian project Traveling Digitization (Digitalização Viajante), focused on Super 8 and 8mm film formats.

THE FACES OF BRAZIL
This is this year's festival theme. Through film, we want to show you that Brazil is much more than just samba, carnival, and football. Our film festival is also a place where travelers, Brazil enthusiasts, and film lovers meet, and where international friendships are formed. We screen films in their original versions with Czech and English subtitles, so everyone can enjoy them.
As this year’s theme suggests, the films we have selected reflect the many different “faces of Brazil.” Yet they share something in common: both in front of and behind the camera are people who want to bring to light overlooked stories worth attention. Thanks to them, we can be carried away by images of a distant tropical world and at the same time peek beneath the surface. Because in each of these stories lies an authentic testimony about a Brazil we might never have imagined.
Each year, our film festival brings you only first-rate films. This year there are seven. To make your experience even more authentic and to help you understand Brazil more deeply, we always prepare a rich accompanying program that starts a week before the festival itself.
