“I believe I can offer different perspectives, ways of thinking," says Adilson, who is responsible for fundraising this year.

Updated: Sep 1

We have prepared for you another interview with a member of the Kino Brasil team, this time with Adilson, who is new to the team and so far the only Brazilian! What is it like for him to be part of the team and what does he recommend the audience to watch in the cinema? Read on to find out!

[Barbora] How many years have you lived in the Czech Republic and why did you want to help the festival?

[Adilson] I have been living in Prague since 2017, so 7 years. I am a film lover and a regular visitor to independent cinemas and film festivals in the city - one of these festivals is Kino Brasil. I realized that I could offer help because I am Brazilian and that it would also bring me pleasure and personal satisfaction. And so here I am!

[Barbora] This is your first year in the Kino Brasil team. How are you enjoying it? Is it the same or different than you imagined?

[Adilson] I really enjoy working with and helping a team that welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like a part of it very quickly. To be honest, I didn't have much idea of what I was going to do, how to do it or what to expect - I was available to help with anything I could and needed, and I did. I hope I'm being useful.

[Barbora] In this short time you have already attended all the meetings and even played an important role in the festival trailer. What was the experience like for you?

[Adilson] It was a new experience because I had never participated in anything like this. It was fun - we were doing the same thing over and over and it was tiring, yes, but I think that's pretty common with this type of activity, but it's fun. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to watch the trailer! =)

[Barbora] You are the only Brazilian in the team. What do you think you can bring to the festival?

[Adilson] Coming from a country with a different language and culture, I believe I can offer different perspectives, ways of thinking and acting, and that it will add up. If it ends up affecting our identity, how we present ourselves, what films we choose to show and how we communicate with the audience, I will be very happy.

[Barbora] You do fundraising. Have you had previous experience with it or is this your first time?

[Adilson] Here is a personal story. My father was a salesman for most of his working life - he is now retired. But I never had the "knack" for it, because the ability to communicate and impress is very necessary for having success in this profession. Working in fundraising is similar to working with sales. You often hear "no" and are left without an answer. It takes resilience and I try to do the best I can.

[Barbora] What do you expect from this year's festival? Will you be present at the cinema?

[Adilson] I hope to see a lot of people, smiles, tears, laughter and that the films will engage our audience. I will be at the cinema every day during the festival!

[Barbora] Do you follow Brazilian cinema? Which film do you think is the best this year and which one would you recommend to people?

[Adilson] Despite being Brazilian, I don't follow our film production that closely - I watch a lot of films from different countries, all the time. However, I am always up-to-date on the most famous Brazilian films in Brazil and abroad. The film I recommend is "Portrait of a Certain Orient", based on the story of war refugees migrating to another country - something very contemporary today - and the picture - the Amazon rainforest in black and white! Unmissable!
