PAPAYA
A small seed, a big dream of flying, and a journey that reveals that putting down roots does not mean being trapped.
A small papaya seed dreams of flying and refuses to accept the destiny nature has in store for it. To avoid putting down roots, it must remain in motion and embark on a journey full of dangers, colours and unexpected discoveries. Little by little, however, it discovers that its roots are not a prison, but pathways capable of connecting life in deep and mysterious ways.
Director Priscilla Kellen’s feature debut is a poetic and visually striking animation about freedom, growing up, nature and the search for one’s place in the world. Without dialogue, Papaya lets colours, movement and music express what words cannot.
The film had its world premiere at Festival do Rio and, in 2026, became the first Brazilian animated film selected for the competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Fun fact: Priscilla Kellen worked on the film for seven years. Before making her feature directorial debut, she collaborated with Alê Abreu on The Cosmic Boy and The Boy and the World.
The film has no dialogue and is suitable for all ages.
+ Activity for children in partnership with Clubinho Aquarela after the screening.
