SAME OLD WEST

A western set in the dusty backlands of Goiás, where two men clash over the same woman.

Totó and Durval, two stubborn men abandoned by the same woman, face off in the fiercest showdown their parched land has ever seen. Director Erico Rassi borrows elements from the western genre to explore loneliness and men unable to embrace their own vulnerability.

A Brazilian western in the spirit of the Coen brothers, it is both chilling and funny, and took the top prize at the Gramado Film Festival, winning Best Film. A brawl set to sentimental ballads stands out as one of the most memorable scenes in recent Brazilian cinema.

Fun fact: Rassi is from Goiás, and this is his second feature film, following the cult hit Comeback: A Killer Never Retires. The film also features Brazilian theatre and cinema legend Antônio Pitanga.
